      From its beginning in 1943 as a small, intrastate, Alabama trucking operation to the national, multi-service transportation company of today, Freight Systems, Inc., has maintained the same philosophy of innovative service at competitive prices.

      In 1950, operating as Colonial & Pacific Frigidways and serving the emerging frozen food industry, C. E. McBride, the company's founder, made application with the I. C. C. for transcontinental authority -- the first motor carrier application of its kind.   now holds both contract and common carrier nationwide authority.

      grew with the rapidly expanding frozen food industry and changed to keep pace with customer needs in a competitive market.   In 1987, introduced the West Division.   This dry van operation utilizes primarily team drivers and operates from the East Coast to West Coast and back.   West is, of course, separate from our Dry Van Division, which operates over irregular routes with concentration on the Eastern half of the United States.

      Perishable LTL service is available from points in New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, New York City, and Baltimore, Maryland; to points in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas.

      The corporate office in Knoxville, Tennessee, is the center of operation for our terminal offices across the United States.   While the terminal offices handle local scheduling and contribute to the smooth efficiency of our shipping network, the corporate headquarters coordinates the overall system.   Maintenance facilities are strategically located throughout the system to service tractors and trailers, thus prohibiting the delay of our owner-operators.

      is a 100% owner-operator company.   Operators or operator-drivers must meet 's stringent driver requirements before they are accepted.   All operators are required to attend 's 3-day, in-house orientation before they are allowed to haul freight.   The Tennessee DOT has stated that has one of the most complete and difficult road tests given to professional truck drivers.

      is one of only a handful of carriers to become totally self-insured.   Our program covers liability for cargo and property damage as well as personal injury and workman's compensation.   By placing a specified amount in a trust fund for the purpose of paying claims, instead of spending large sums on insurance each year, we have reduced our costs.   Reduced cost has improved our ability to meet our customer needs at competitive prices.

      pioneered the use of a full on-line computer system that provides instant traffic information, reporting tracing, pick-up and delivery, OS&D, and freight payment information.   This traffic information is available to customers 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
